jbird21 asked:

I see diesel trucks often the shoot black smoke out of there pipes or stacks. I was wondering how they get their trucks to do that. I do know that they can somewhat do it when they want. Dont know much about trucks. So….How do i get my diesel truck to shoot black smoke out of my stacks?

more fuel !!! lots more fuel.. and no restriction in the exhaust system. most of the trucks you see doing that have been modified or are very old. the new trucks are not supposed to do that. they get labeled “gross poluters” if they get caught doing that for any length of time . most states will have laws against it “excessive smoke”. it usually means the truck is running really hard and swallowing fuel like cheap hooker at the all you can drink bar ! more boost, more fuel will make it blow tons of smoke if you really think its a good thing…

white smoke is burning oil… black smoke is burning gas… i don’t recommend it. that means your just wasting gas, cost too much, if your deisel is in good running shape you should be.

Better yet, make it shoot flames…..

I guess I spent too much time at Englishtown,NJ in my youth.

Many diesel tuners sell diesel smoke kit switches that allow you to blow a bunch of smoky, unburned fuel out the exhaust, but why would you want that? It’s just a waste and it’s actually illegal in many places…and it looks stupid . You’re truck will look like a flaming POS going down the road.

LOL! One of my technicians has a 1983 GMC standard, deisel duallie with stacks that we occassionaly use for towing, and it blows black smoke only from one stack! (I don’t think the second gas tank works properly but we’re not fixing it.) I have to drive the beast now and then, and I get embarrassed with the truck louder than heck and clutch issues (so I can’t find second gear right off the bat, your hear a bit of grinding until I find it, big deal)! Then, out slides a ***** from behind the wheel. Uh huh, Hey, I prefer not to drive it, but at least I can. So there. And I get lots of smiles from males in the big rigs.

I fully expect a thumbs down for the post since I do not know how to answer the question but I am so fed up with my auto repair business tonight, I do not care. Would rather work on vehicles than have to deal with the accounting/bookkeeping, legal issues, marketing/advertising, insurance liability, real estate/landlord issues, local ordinances, a rogue partner, etc. etc. etc. And I have an advanced degree for this crap? Plus that duallie is out of registration and inspection and sits on the lot like an eye sore and has clutch issues. 1983 GMC. So much for towing.

How lucky am I.
